Joy is a sprinkler attachment

For the end of March, this weekend sure felt like the beginning of summer!

To celebrate our first non-busy weekend day in forever, yesterday we busted out the wading pool and sprinkler attachment for the garden hose. It may take Kian a little bit longer to warm up to the wading pool, but the sprinkler was a HUGE hit!

Here he is, in toddler heaven:

He went on like this for a long, long time. You can bet he slept soundly last night! :)

Singing

Well, our toddler can certainly sing and hum, but it’s not Twinkle Twinkle Little Star he’s singing!

Instead, his favorites to sing along to are:
- El Negro Zambon
- Guantanamera
- Cielito Lindo
- Three Little Birds
- Here Comes the Sun
- I’m a Little Airplane (nyaow, nyaow!)
- Bye Bye Poopy (that one’s a house original)

I love hearing him sing!

p.s. Our camera has been hiding in a box somewhere, but we hope to get it out and start taking pictures again before too long. In the meantime, Naysan is supposed to send me some photos and movies he has taken of Kian on his phone - hopefully I'll have those up soon!

Me

I should have included this with yesterday's post, but it slipped my mind. There's one other cute Kian story I wanted to share.

At random moments in in recent days, like when I have just changed his shirt, or in the middle of walking down the hall, he'll put his hand on his chest, give it a little pat, look up, and say softly "me!".

Yeah, baby + Moving

Well, it's been a busy couple of weeks.

For those of you who may not have heard, last weekend we moved from our apartment to a house not too far away. It was brutal! Moving is never easy; moving 5-6 years of accumulated stuff is harder; and moving while trying not to traumatize your toddler harder still. Add to all of that the fact that I am having some fun with nausea (8 weeks pregnant!) and that I came down with a nice little cold bug the same weekend and you have a recipe for absolute exhaustion - for me and for Naysan, who had to pick up my slack. But we made it through that nightmare and the subsequent hellish work week, and surfaced Saturday morning with the dawning realization that we are in our own home, which belongs to us, and we have a great yard!

For two days we had a lovely time playing with Kian in his new world, working on unpacking when he was asleep, working in the yard with his "help" when he wasn't, and even taking a nice walk in our new neighborhood. Naysan even gave me the gift of letting me sleep in until 9-ish both days, which really helped with the nausea (thank you!!).

I have 2 funny Kian stories that happened this weekend which I have to share, but unfortunately no video or pictures so you'll have to use your imagination.

1. Yeah, baby!

Kian likes to call us. He'll holler "Mommy!" or "Daddy!", and I mean holler, even if we are standing right next to him, just to get a holler back. Usually we say "Yes, love" or "Yes, Kian" or "Yeah, baby" interchangeably - in a sort of loving but slightly distracted tone of voice. Well, he's started repeating what we are saying back to him -- with a twist. Now he goes around shouting "Yeah, baby! Yeah, baby! Yeah, baby!" with his own intonation. His version sounds a lot more like Austen Powers than the way we say it, and we can only imagine how it sounds to the neighbors!

2. Ouch!

This weekend I got to do a little gardening in the new back yard. Specifically, I got to weed out most of the vegetable beds and get them ready to do a little planting. As I was doing this, I was explaining to Kian that we were clearing out the grass and weeds so that we can grow food in the soil, and he was talking with me about this ("food! food! mumble mumble mumble, soil!") and walking around me in circles and sitting in the dirt watching me work. Then, when I pulled out a really big weed with a nice long root system, he goes "ouch! ouchie!"! And every good root I pulled out afterward he said the same! I had to admit, I didn't think those weeds really liked being pulled out of the earth either, but I tried to justify it by saying that there were lots more of them around and we didn't invite them to grow here, so it was ok to pull these ones out so we can grow food instead. Somehow I still felt a little mean. Ouch!

Thank you...

Kian has started saying "thank you"!

He's even dropped a "you're welcome" once or twice! Still not saying "please" much though. He must not be hearing that from us! Haha... hmm.

He's also starting to speak in sentences. When he wants Naysan to bring him to me, he says "go mommy? go mommy?". I just heard him say that the other day, but Naysan says he's been doing it for a while!

Of course he also still speaks to us in his own language. Sometimes he talks to us for a long time, with very strong eye contact and sweeping hand gestures. He's telling us very important things! We listen closely and try to make the appropriate responses. I wish there was a way to record him (it happenes in the moment, and the camera kills his focus) or translate what he's saying!
