Wolfie and the Poopie

A couple of weeks ago Kian and I went to our good friend Emiko's bridal shower. It was a lovely and classy event with very nice people and good food, but the real highlight was a conversation I overheard between a young child named Wolfie and his mother, who happened to be standing behind Kian and me while Emiko was opening her gifts.

When I told Emiko about it afterward she said I needed to put it on my blog, so here it goes. I can only imagine what's in store for us when Kian gets to be this age!

Mom (softly): "Wolfie, do you have a poopie in your pants?"
Wolfie (confidently): "No, I don't have a poopie."
Mom (patronizing): "Are you SURE you don't have a poopie in your pants?"
Wolfie: (even more confident): "Yes: I took it out and threw it on the deck."
Mom (with dawning horror): "You WHAT?!?!"

Wolfie repeated himself proudly: if a poopie in the pants was the concern, problem solved!

A very intent looking mother then took Wolfie outside to locate said poopie, which was, as reported, on the deck.

Wolfie and his mother removed upstairs for some time after that. Luckily the house (and deck) belonged to Wolfie's grandparents.

Scary lion....

A scary thing happened to Kian this past weekend!

We were reading "Little Gorilla", and he was following along, happily looking at each of the pages and turning them for me -- until we got to the part where the book says "Lion roared his loudest roar for him", and I decided to give a little roar by way of illustration. (you can see the lion if you go to this link and scroll down: http://books.google.com/books?id=5KD4r_CYSjoC&printsec=frontcover&dq=the+little+gorilla&source=gbs_summary_r&cad=0#PPP1,M1)

My roar wasn't loud, and it certainly wasn't meant to be scary, but Kian was looking at the drawing of the lion roaring with all of his sharp teeth exposed (Little Gorilla was pulling his tail) and it struck him all at once that this was a very frightening thing. The poor little guy jumped, and then his face crumpled and he began crying with all his heart. He hardly ever cries!

I held him and rocked him tried my best to soothe him, explaining that the lion was really a very nice lion, and that Little Gorilla just startled him by pulling his tail - to no avail. Just looking at the picture sent him over again! I tried continuing on with the story and Kian allowed himself to be distracted by Little Gorilla, but every time that we've read the story since and we get to the part with the lion (which I read quickly with a very happy voice) he looks at it out of the corner of his eye with deep misgivings.

Needless to say, I don't roar anymore!

Naysan took this picture on his cell phone. There is something so sweet about that smile! (Correction -- Farhad actually took this picture on his cell phone, not Naysan)

The park near our house has baby swings. Wheeeeeeee!

Kian likes to share.

Kian with Aunt Victoria

It was Persian New Year this past weekend! We got Kian all dressed up and went to Naysan's Aunt Victoria's house for dinner. Doesn't he look like a respectable young man in a button down shirt with his hair combed?

Playing with the other babies during "separation time" ... can you spot Kian in the back?

Pull ups!

Kian enjoys going to "My Gym" with his parents on Saturdays. It's a combination of signing and playing, with some circle time and exercizes built in. We have fun watching him explore and interact with the other babies, plus we get to interact and play with him, too. This is the "ball pit" at My Gym. Kian especially enjoys chewing on these brightly colored balls. I was squeamish for about 2 seconds, and then I realized that it's pretty pointless to try to stop him. (Hopefully they clean them occasionally though!)

Beginning the Blog

Hi friends and family!

This is a blog to keep you all in the loop regarding what's going on with all three of us - but especially Kian. I've never blogged before, so I expect it will be a little choppy at first! Hopefully I'll get the hang of it, and it can be another way for us to stay connected. More to follow.....
